Turkey's e-Visa system lets eligible travellers apply online instead of at a consulate. The rules depend entirely on your passport's nationality — some nationalities need an e-Visa, some can enter visa-free for short stays, and some need a full consular visa. There is no single answer that applies to everyone, so treat any page (including this one) that gives a blanket "you do / don't need one" as a starting point, not a final answer.

The only official site is www.evisa.gov.tr, run by the Republic of Turkey. It is the sole legitimate online source for a Turkish e-Visa. A number of unofficial "visa assistance" sites rank highly in search results, style themselves to look official, and charge a significant markup over the real government fee for doing nothing more than forwarding your application. Check the URL carefully before entering any payment details.

How to check if you need one

  1. Go to evisa.gov.tr directly (type it, don't search-and-click).
  2. Use the site's own eligibility checker with your passport's issuing country.
  3. Cross-check against your own government's travel advisory page for Turkey, which usually links the same official portal.

What the process generally involves

For eligible nationalities, the standard e-Visa process is genuinely simple: an online form, passport details, a payment by card, and a PDF issued within minutes to (usually) a couple of days. Print or save the PDF and carry it — some check-in counters and immigration officers still ask to see it rather than looking it up.

Why we won't publish a country-by-country table here

Visa rules change — sometimes with very little notice, and differently for different passports. A static table on a travel blog goes stale fast and, worse, looks authoritative while being wrong. We'd rather send you to the one page that's actually kept current: evisa.gov.tr. We do track major rule changes on our news board when they happen.
