Three days is the realistic minimum to see Istanbul's historic peninsula properly and get at least one taste of what's across the water — tight, but not a sprint if you accept you won't see everything. This itinerary assumes you're staying in or near Sultanahmet (see our area guide if you haven't booked yet) and prioritises the sights most first-time visitors regret missing.

Day 1: The historic peninsula's core

Day 2: Topkapı and the bazaars

Day 3: Cross the water

Two good options depending on what you want more of:

What we've deliberately left out: a day trip to the Princes' Islands, Süleymaniye Mosque, and most of Beyoğlu's nightlife scene. Three days genuinely isn't enough for all of it — see our 7-day itinerary if you have more time, rather than trying to cram everything into three.
